Updated: Oct 25

With pets they often chew objects on your carpet and cause stains. They can also cause hair to build up in your carpet.

We have good do not have to give up your pet to keep the carpet clean. We have listed below some great ideas to help you keep your carpets looking fresh and clean while still enjoying your pets indoors.

Wipe Your Pet’s Paws Off

You can prevent pets from dragging dirt onto your carpet by wiping their paws off when they come inside. Keep a towel close to the door or on the floor in front of the door, especially over the winter months. Your pet may not thank you for it but it is one of the best things that you can do to keep the carpet clean. Pets are smart and they will soon understand that they will have to get their paws cleaned every time that they come in the house.

Add an Area Rug to the Room

A rug or mat is a great addition to any room and it will also protect your carpet. You should put the rug in a high-traffic area. You will want to make sure that your pet spends most of their time on the rug and not the carpet.

Use a Pet-Friendly Carpet Cleaner

We all have accidents from time to time. If your pet does have an accident, then you will need to clean it up quickly in order to prevent the stain from becoming embedded in the carpet. Make sure that you get the worst of it up first. After that, you will need to use a pet-friendly carpet cleaner.

Keep Your Pet Clean

Keeping your pet clean with regular brushing will help you maintain a clean carpet.

There will be less mess to transfer to the carpet if your pet is clean. You will also need to keep your pet groomed. Regular grooming your pet will reduce the amount of hair that ends up on the carpet.

Lay Tiles in your Entrance

You can install tiles near doorways. This is another way that you can prevent the pet from tracking dirt and debris into the house. It is so much easier to clean up dirt and grass off a tiled floor.

Vacuum Your Carpet

Vacuuming regularly is one of the keys to preventing dirt and hair from building up in the carpet. You may have to vacuum your carpet several times a week, remembering to vacuum your furniture. Any dirt that is on the furniture can easily end up on the carpet.

Use Baking Soda

Confine Them to One Place

If you do have a messy pet, why not consider placing them in a room that does not have carpet. You do not necessarily have to keep your pet in this area all of the time. You can just keep them there when you are away from home during the day or at night while you sleep.

Be Mindful of what Your Pet Eats

There is a great array of pet food available but many have artificial ingredients and colours which can stain your carpet. When purchasing check to see if they have natural ingredients
